Choosing your Apparatus- Apparatus Guide and Requirements


When it comes to rhythmic gymnastics, the right apparatus can significantly impact your training and competition results. Here are the steps to find the right apparatus:



What to Look out for

For those competing and those looking to compete soon, the most important thing is that the apparatuses you will be performing with are FIG Approved.

This means all apparatus must have a FIG-Approved LOGO.




Be sure to check this before adding to your basket. You will usually see in the product description whether it is FIG-Approved. You may sometimes need to scroll through the product pictures to find the logo.

Where to Buy Apparatus

180 – 200 mm for anyone over 14 years (smaller diameter allowed for under 14)

  • Sasaki: Sasaki ropes are sturdy and easier to use because they have a sturdy shape. However, they are quite pricey.

  • Venturelli: Best price- quality ratio

Material:

Hemp or similar suitable material

Length:

Optional for Senior and Junior Gymnasts

Thickness:

Uniform or reinforced in the centre

Shape:

Both rope-ends, with or without knots. Without wooden handle. May be wrapped with a thin nonslip material in a length corresponding to the width of a hand.

Colour:

Optional. Bright colour preferred.

Hoop

Material:

  • Mostly synthetics

  • Should be wrapped for better grip.

Weight:

260 g. minimum for over fourteens

Inner diam.:

700 – 900 mm for over fourteens (equals 2199 – 2827 mm inner circumference)

Colour:

Optional. Often bought white or translucent and wrapped in preferred coloured tape.

Clubs

Wood or synthetics

400 – 500 mm for Junior and Senior (14 y.o +)

Weight:

 150 g. min (The weight specification shall be fulfilled unwrapped)

Diameter of the head:

30 mm max (The head of the clubs must be fixed firmly to the neck of the apparatus. It shall not rotate)

Colour:

Optional. Bright colour preferred. Can be wrapped.
